Pula is located at the very south of the peninsula. It has been the administrative centre of Istria since Roman times. The most important monument and symbol of the city is the Arena, which belongs to the elite group of the largest surviving Roman amphitheatres in the world. It is the only one with all three architectural orders preserved. The Pula Arena was built in the 1st century.
